The Basics

Famous for its natural beauty and culinary culture, Kangaroo Island is a popular South Australia vacation destination. While it’s possible to take in the highlights on a full-day tour from Adelaide, multi-day Kangaroo Island tours offer the chance to explore further afield. Most tours explore the island’s wildlife reserves and visit natural landmarks such as the Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch, and Vivonne Bay. It’s also possible to venture off-road on a Kangaroo Island 4WD tour or sample the island’s local produce on a food and wine tour.

OMG soooo good. Sam was the best instructor and looked after our 2 girls (7 & 8) like they were his own. They went from never having ridden to pros in the space of 2 hours. He absolutely made the experience for us what an absolute legend.

Kangaroo Island in a Day Tour from Adelaide
This was such a lovely day, the bus and ferry to kangaroo island there and back was long but with it. I loved seeing the Australian sea lions and the fur seals were lovely, and the admirals arch was an unexpected surprise. Dani out tour guide was a local and it was fantastic having a local know knew the area but also what the people on the island are like. We also visited a wildlife park where we were able to feed kangaroos as well as see some Australian animals.

2 day Ultimate Kangaroo Island with return ferry
The destination points were well worth the long trips in the bus. The Remarkable Rocks were incredible and in the the 2 days we covered all the wonderful sites we wanted to see in this amazing place. The buses were very comfortable and our driver, Adam, was extremely friendly. The fact that he is a KI local meant he had some interesting stories to tell. We would highly recommend this trip. It is well worth the very reasonable cost.

Kangaroo Island Ocean Safari - Snorkeling Safari
What a way to end our 4 day trip. Couldnt have asked for a better send off then swimming with a pod of dolphins. Its expected that you can not get too close to these amazing animals. Although the gratitude I hold from my experience is something I will never forget. Thankyou to our guides you did an awesome job.

When to Get There

Summer (December through February) is the most popular time to visit the island. This is also the best time to spot wildlife because it coincides with the breeding season. Due to mild year-round temperatures, it’s also possible to visit during winter to avoid crowds and find lower prices on tours and accommodations.

Wildlife on Kangaroo Island

Wildlife lovers will be in their element on Kangaroo Island, where a third of the land is designated as nature reserve and animal residents outnumber human ones. Admire the natural beauty of Flinders Chase National Park, walk the boardwalk at Seal Bay to see fur seals in their natural habitat, admire little penguins at Penneshaw Penguin Centre, visit the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, or stop at Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary to spot koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, and cassowaries.
