Sometimes known as Plaza Machado, Plazuela Machado was developed thanks to a donation of land from local businessman Juan Nepomuceno Machado. Highlights include the 19th century wrought iron gazebo, which sits at the heart of the plaza, as well as the wide range of nearby old town attractions, restaurants, and events—such as book and food fairs—that are held here.
Most city tours—whether walking, biking, or Segway options—pass through or stop at Plazuela Machado and typically include further visits to the cathedral, Olas Altas Beach, and Ángela Peralta Theater.
