The Basics

Split into 10 themed zones, Taronga Zoo is designed to resemble a natural habitat. Ticket options range from general entry tickets to admission with add-ons and upgrades such as supervised hand-feedings, behind-the-scenes experiences, and educational visits with Aboriginal guides. You can even sleep at the zoo inside a classic safari tent.

All tickets include a ride on the Sky Safari cable car, which provides aerial views of the animals and Sydney Harbour. Those looking for convenience can book a tour that includes a Taronga Zoo visit, a Sydney Harbour cruise, and round-trip transportation from their hotel.

Nice day trip
Great day trip. Short ride on ferry from Circular Quay. Zoo has nice variety of exhibits for all ages. Enough to see in 1 day, but not overwhelming. Be aware that there is lots of walking, hills & stairs. There are ramps for strollers etc, but it might be difficult for some folks with ambulatory issues. Really nice day.

Sydney Taronga Zoo's Australian Animals Tour
Such a great experience. We felt so privileged to go behind the scenes to see the animals at such a wonderful zoo nestled into the hills above Sydney (there’s a reason they call it the zoo with a view). Huge thanks to our wonderful guides Samantha and Joan who were so knowledgeable and couldn’t do enough to make our experience special.

Worthwhile for 1/2 day trip. Boarded at 9am and left by 1p. Zoo is small but able to see kangaroos and other animals. Best part is able to enjoy the amazing view of Sydney Opera House from atop! Would recommend.

Sydney Taronga Zoo's Australian Animals Tour
Seeing the koala’s up close and personal was amazing! Something more special was seeing the female kangaroo’s and their little joey’s popping their heads out of their pouches! Very special - the tour guides even took us to the behind the scenes to see the Echidna’s which I was most excited to see! Overall a truly magical experience!

Miles away to see the zoo

Shouldn’t miss this whenever you visit Sydney. It’s an awesome experience, with my son, but maybe it’s best on summer because it was too windy and some animals were in hiding.

Sydney Harbour Hop On Hop Off Cruise with Taronga Zoo entry
An excellent way off getting around the harbour. The vessels are very clean and always on time. We enjoyed the zoo very much they have a strong ethos on conservation The exhibits allow you to get up close to the animals and the zoo keeper talks are very informative.

Sydney Harbour Hop On Hop Off Cruise with Taronga Zoo entry
The Sydney Harbour cruise was amazing. We were able to get on and off at our leizure and there were plenty of boat times throughout the day. It was recommended that we go early to have enough time to see the Zoo. It was a very well kept and well designed zoo, too! I especially loved the indigenous animals, as well as the new tiger and elephant exhibits. Would definitely go again!

Views from the Zoo

Taronga is an aboriginal phrase that means “beautiful view.” Indeed, the zoo boasts sweeping views of Sydney Harbour and landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. Snap a photo of giraffes with Sydney’s skyscrapers in the background, or soak in the scenery while relaxing at one of the picnic areas overlooking the harbor. For another perspective, test your limits on the ropes course (additional cost).
