Departure Time

4:00 AM
Venture through the rugged heart of Australia to the spectacular scenery of Kings Canyon. Get an early start to the day with morning pickup at Ayers Rock Resort, and travel in a comfortable coach through the rocky desert landscape. Start with breakfast at Kings Creek cattle and camel station — an expansive family-run estate that’s been operating since 1981. Get a sense of Outback station life with an optional camel ride (own expense) if you like.

Continue on to Watarrka National Park, home to Kings Canyon. Learn about the history of the massive red sandstone gorge from your guide, including its sacred meaning to the indigenous Ulpinyali and Lilla people.

Immerse yourself in the natural wonder with the choice of two walks. On the 3.5-mile (6-km) Rim Walk, make a strenuous elevation gain of 330 feet (100 meters) up a cliff to the canyon’s edge for thrilling views to the valley floor below. You’ll also follow a steep trail down into the canyon to a leafy, spring-fed oasis nicknamed the Garden of Eden. Or, opt for the more leisurely Creek Bed Walk that runs 1 mile (2 km) along the valley floor and offers a ground-level perspective of the towering canyon walls.

After your walk, recharge with lunch (own expense) and a swim at the nearby Kings Canyon Resort, and then relax and rest your muscles on the scenic return drive to Ayers Rock Resort. Alternatively, you can catch a different coach and continue on to Alice Springs for a convenient transfer.

You really shouldn’t miss this, in your once for life tour to Uluru. It’s hard for 6km climb and walk but it worth. The AAT kings is professional, the boys Jack and Dylan are good guides

Easy to organise on line. Friendly efficient, helpful staff at office in Ayers Rock. Driver and guides professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Coach very comfortable. 2 walks available, can choose on the day and are given opportunity to change from the harder walk after a short trial. Beautiful walk through this amazing landscape with explanations from guides. Well worth the effort.

A day well spent

The tour guide knew when to chat and when not to (whether to get a bit of sleep on the trek to and fro or out on the hike to just take in the awe of your surroundings). She motivated the group and was very engaging - teaching and sharing throughout the hike. Bring lots of water!!! It got up to the mid to high 40s for parts of our hike. The stops at the stations coming and going were equally enjoyable with different animals. (You May get lucky and get a camel selfie)

Kings Canyon Rim Walk

Kings Canyon is a spectacular place to see. A must do and if you are traveling from the Resort at Uluru, well worth the early morning start. The bus / coach was right on time at 4:15am pick up with a 3 hour bus ride ahead, plenty of time to have a sleep on the bus and a big breakfast at Kings Creek Station about 30 minutes before the walk. The walk has a big initial climb, 500 rock steps up the side of the canyon. Wear a hat, appropriate walking clothes, comfortable, sturdy enclosed shoes and a camel bak if you have one carrying 3 x 1 litre bottles just adds weight to your bag and not as easy to drink from. If you climb from October 1, you need 3 litres of water per hour of walking and this hike is 3 hours long and around 6 km. I drank 2 litres. I am moderately fit and found the walk very comfortable after the initial climb. There is no rush and the guides are amazing and very informative. The walk takes from 8:30am - 11:30am. Wear block out and take money for lunch after the walk at the Kings canyon resort around 12:00noon, where you can get a good meal and a cold beer, wine or soft drink. You can go back to Uluru resort or continue up to Alice Springs. The bus leaves Kings Canyon Resort at about 12:45pm and Buses meet and swap passengers back on the main road, some go to Alice and others to Uluru. The ride back is very relaxing with a stop at Curtain Springs. Back to the resort by about 5:30pm. The bus / coach has reclining seats, foot rests and a toilet if you need it. Great Day Out!!

Beautiful canyon and lovely visit

My husband and I went on the King’s Canyon day tour from Ayers Rock Resort. It was a long but a wonderful trip with beautiful views. Our tour guides were Greg and Garry. Since we went on the longer trek Garry led us around that part of the experience. He was very knowledgeable and patient. He spoke with each of the visitors along the trek and got to know a little about each one. One of our tourists actually had to be airlifted out since he was afraid of heights and Garry didn’t seem phased a bit. There were plenty of stops for breakfast, lunch and even a couple souvenir opportunities. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would recommend this to anyone who wants to explore the area a bit more.

The walk can be a bit hard-going in places, especially when it's very hot, but it's definitely worth the effort. The views are breathtaking. Be sure to take plenty of water - in the summer it's a requirement and the guides do check you have enough water on you before you're allowed to do the walk.

An untruthful tour description. It is a very hard arduous trip with a great danger if your not fully fit and agile due to a 45 degree 350 foot climb on rocks placed as steps.

The tour required us to get up...

The tour required us to get up early, but seeing the sun rise while cruising through the outback was fantastic. In the early morning light, we saw wild camels, horses, and dingos. The sky was beautiful as in the time leading up to, and after, the sunrise. Breakfast at the station was good. Once we got to the canyon, the guides set a pace that everyone could keep up with. The interesting facts and stories he shared kept everyone's attention as we made the journey. It was hot, but the buses AC was great.
