After morning pickup from either Brisbane or the Gold Coast, catch the ferry to Moreton Island. You might spot dolphins, migrating humpback whales, and other marine animals on the way to Moreton Island.

Moreton Island is the third-largest sand island in the world. Travel by sturdy 4WD-vehicle along the sandy beach to Tangalooma Wrecks where you have a choice of activities. Snorkel with your guide among the Tangalooma Wrecks, 15 ships that were purposely scuttled to create a break wall, now inhabited by colorful corals, tropical fish, sea turtles, and other critters. Alternatively, use provided transparent bodyboards to take a look at the reef, or stay dry and enjoy the beach.

Refuel with a picnic lunch served on the beach, then hop into a transparent kayak and follow your guide on a tour of the Tangalooma Wrecks, watching an array of fish swim underneath your kayak.

Swap the sea for the sand as your guide steers your 4WD inland to reach the sand dunes. There, try sandboarding, an exhilarating sport that is comparable to tobogganing. Some people can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour (50 kph) while zipping down the dunes.

If time allows after sandboarding, return to Tangalooma Beach for a swim before reboarding the ferry. Your tour ends with return to your starting point in Brisbane or the Gold Coast in the evening.

(Please note: if conditions are unfavorable for snorkeling and kayaking, a 4WD island tour will be substituted).
Itinerary
Stop At:
Moreton Island
In the morning, your 4WD coach picks you up from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, then travels to the ferry to Moreton Island. During the 75-minute ferry ride across Moreton Bay, take in views from the deck or cabin, keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine life. When you reach the island, your 4WD-vehicle drives along the sand to the Tangalooma Wrecks where you have several options for beachside fun. Follow your guide on a snorkeling tour of the famous shipwrecks; the 15 vessels were purposely sunk here to create a breakwall. This resulting reef is home to colorful corals, tropical fish, trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, kingfish and more. If snorkeling doesn’t appeal to you, use the provided transparent bodyboards to paddle in search of turtles, reef fish, coral and other critters, or simply relax on the white-sand beach. After the snorkel tour, your guide serves a picnic lunch before leading a tour on transparent kayaks to explore the Tangalooma Wrecks. Stay dry as you view an amazing array of fish right below your kayak. (Please note that a 4WD tour around the island will replace the snorkeling and kayaking if conditions are unfavorable). Next, hang on tight as your driver takes your 4WD on rough inland tracks to tall sand dunes that are ideal for sandboarding, a fun, high-adrenaline activity comparable to tobogganing. It is possible to reach speeds of up to 30 mphr (50 kph) as you zip down the dunes. After sandboarding, return to the coast and enjoy a swim at Tangalooma Beach (if time allows). Then catch the ferry back to the mainland and reach Brisbane or the Gold Coast in the evening.

It was my best snorkeling experience ever! All the tour guide are super friendly, the water was shallow and clear. Millions of fish are surround you! One tip: it’s better to wear swimsuit while sand-boarding, you can wash off all sand easily after:)

It was a lovely location and whole thing was well organised with the exception of the collection of the park fees. We were told to bring cash for this but after wasting almost an hour trying to find a working ATM it turned out we could just use eftpos

The whole experience of the day - kayaking and snorkelling around the TangaloomaWrecks, the sandboarding at the beautiful Desert and all the effort the great staff put in to make the day trip so enjoyable - a big thank you to them all.

I love all of the activities. Everything was well plan. The tour guide Josh and Nemo were excellent they are so fun and well explained each of the activity. Only thing I can suggest is for the snorkel activity, if the tour guide can take the picture of the group/individual while we are in the water it would make it more memorable as we can not take our phone to into the water. I would invest a gopro ( waterproof one) for future visit. I would recommend to anyone to do the tour.
