Return Details

Returns to original departure point
After boarding your deluxe boat, which seats a max of 100 people, including your experienced guides, your Great Barrier Reef day trip starts with the boat ride from Cairns out to the reef—one of the fastest rides from Cairns, with just more than an hour of cruising time.

Depending on the weather and water conditions on the day of your tour, your guides will head to one of 12 exclusive moorings at six reef locations, providing you with the best possible on-the-water experience that day. Most likely, you’ll visit one of the Outer Great Barrier Reef spots like Saxon Reef or Norman Reef in the morning, and then continue to North Hastings Reef in the afternoon.

Upon arrival at your first location, hop in the water with your provided snorkeling equipment for a look at multicolored fish, coral and other marine life. Instruction is provided for beginners, and your knowledgeable crew members are on hand to encourage and help you, if needed. Then snorkel again at your second location. If you’d rather not get wet, you can still check out this World Heritage–listed underwater world on a tour by semi-submersible vessel (own expense; payable on the day of your tour).

During your time on the barrier reef you can refuel with an onboard buffet lunch of Australian barbecue items such as fresh fish, sausages and steak, plus a selection of pastas, salads and prawns. On the return trip to Cairns, snack on a platter of cheese and fruit while members of your talented crew provide live music and entertainment to celebrate the end of your day on the sea.

Fantastic staff. Very well organised particularly with all the extra COVID-19 requirements in place. Would highly recommend. Both reefs were lovely. The first reef, I thought was even nicer in terms of a few more coral varieties. The boat photographer was excellent. He would attract a Green Sea Turtle and a giant fish and snorkellers and divers could watch them and get photos with them and choose later on if you would like to purchase it. They had heaps of gear, plus great stinger suits. Lunch was AMAZING. Seriously the best potato salad, lovely fish, prawns and a decent steak. Great other salads as well. They also had Morning and Afternoon Tea, although it was pretty basic with a small chocolate muffin and scone. A coffee and tea bar was a nice touch. The boat was really well maintained. Couldn't speak more highly of our experience. No negatives in our trip.

Had a great day out with my friends. The staff were funny, accommodating, helpful and took care of our every need. I appreciated the allocated seating so I didn’t have to worry about where we were going to sit and there was ample space. Loved snorkeling. Food was great.

A fantastic day snorkelling on the outer reef. My family thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The day was well structured to allow lots of time to snorkel, to eat plenty of food, to relax on the sun decks...all this was made possible by the professional, fun, relaxed and attentive crew. Fully recommend.

My experience with Down Under Dives was amazing! We absolutely loved the activities and what it held. The full family went snorkelling and saw so many beautiful fish.. The coral reefs were beautiful with so many different shapes and sizes. My son went scuba diving for the first time and he loved it. The instructor was great and the tour was incredible. He even touched the bottom of the ocean, knowing he was safe because of the great equipment. We would love to do this again. Thanks again for the great adventure.
