4 Elizabeth St , 4 Elizabeth St, Hobart TAS 7000, Australia

Departure Point: 4 Elizabeth Street, Hobart Directions: Please meet our guide just opposite the Tasmania Visitor Information Centre (4 Elizabeth st) approx. 15 minutes prior to your tour departure time.

This activity will end right where it started.
Your Hobart cycling adventure starts as you’re outfitted with a mountain bike and helmet. From the top of Mt Wellington, admire the view of the sprawling city and River Derwent before hopping on your bike and taking off with your guide down the mountain. As the alpine terrain turns into a more verdant forest environment, make stops to enjoy the scenery and take photos.

Your winding route takes you into the Wellington foothills, where you can detour into an off-road section, if you wish (see below for more details). Then continue into the suburbs of South Hobart and past historical Battery Point, finishing your 2-wheeled journey on the Hobart waterfront at Salamanca Place.

This biking tour is designed for all levels of fitness; total cycling distance is 13 miles (21 km).

Off-road biking:

If you’re feeling adventurous during your bike tour, you may veer off the bike track into approximately 3 miles (5 km) of dirt-trail off-road cycling before meeting back up with the rest of the group about 20 minutes later at a rest stop. The whole group will then finish the bike tour together by riding into Hobart. (If you do not take the off-road route, the support van will follow to the meeting point.)

Callum was great taking us down the mountain - he helped me return to the group when I accidentally sped past them not seeing the group waiting on the side . I hadn’t ridden a bike in 30 years so it was daunting going down the mountain trying to figure out gears and seeing cars passing by. Not for the faint hearted - you do need a bit of nerve. People in the cars were great and patient and we had a van following us behind to make sure we were safe . We did have a few falls but all riders just simply jumped back on. Often the accidents happened when they were not focusing on the road. There were a few off road tracks which also tested skill. Recommend comfortable pants that don’t get caught up in the pedals and a warm jacket and gloves for grip. You will be talking about the trip days after whether you return unscathed or were covered in bruises - you only live once.

Riding guide Callum's inclusion of First Nation's People's experience of colonialism, and the necessity for truth telling before Australia can move forward into healing and justice.

Fantastic way to oversee Hobart

Really enjoyed this experience; so much better than sitting on a bus tour! We had a group of 8 and our guide Nadine was excellent and patient with those who needed to tackle the offroad section a little slower. We were fortunate to have excellent weather and superb views over Hobart.

Amazing views across Hobart before Exhilarating descent
Jason_P

Trip to the summit of Kunyayi for amazing views across Hobart, Derwent estuary and beyond. Then it’s time to saddle up for an epic descent down the mountain while the wind whistles and you feel the rush. Only downside is need to concentrate on road so do not get as much time to enjoy the views on way down!

A must for a confident bike rider

An exhilarating experience and would highly recommend it to anyone with a level of confidence on a bike. We were so lucky to have a perfect day of weather. Was a little disappointed when my friend had a fall on the off-road area and the staff never checked on her before tour ended. She had very grazed knees. Also nothing is supplied expect for the bikes and guide. So if you would like a drink on water on the way down, best to bring your own

Amazing day- was very cloudy and freezing cold at start of the ride ( sunny at the bottom in Hobart😆). Off road section was lovely in amongst the trees etc. Claire have us some interesting info about the area.

Bike ride down hill for...

Bike ride down hill for so long. 20km. Safety is a higher priority for the company and I felt well looked after. The support bus made sure the cars did not pass whilst cycling down. Need to be a regular rider. Not suitable for beginners but you can always hop in the bus at any time

Thanks Melissa for these comments, especially that you felt safe and well looked after which is always the priority. Cheers!

Super fun bike ride down the mountain was exciting but you still felt comfortable knowing that you could go at your own pace. Tour guides were very thorough and full of interesting information. Loved the mountain bike section even though I had very little experience in this. Beautiful scenery.
