When booking, select your ferry departure location—either Perth or Fremantle—as well as the option to include lunch on the island, if you wish.

Your day trip starts with the high-speed ferry ride to Rottnest Island. If you’re departing Perth, cruise along the Swan River to Fremantle, where the river meets the Indian Ocean, to pick up more passengers for the ride across the water to Rotto, as it’s referred to by locals. When you arrive, hop aboard your coach for an island sightseeing tour.

Listen to commentary from your guide about the history, culture and wildlife of the island, known for its secluded beaches and its resident quokkas, small marsupials who call Rottnest home. As you circle the island, make stops at Wadjemup Lighthouse and the West End, where you can hop off to stroll down the boardwalk, admiring coastal views. Look for fur seals at Cathedral Rocks, and watch for the possible humpback whale, which might be seen from September to November.

When your tour ends at Thompson Bay, you are free to enjoy the island independently until it’s time to catch the ferry back to Perth. Perhaps rent a bike to check out one of the 63 beaches or 20 bays, go snorkeling or stand-up paddleboarding, or visit attractions like Lomas Cottage, Rottnest Island Museum or Pilot Boathouse. (Rentals, activities and entrance fees are at your own expense.) If you select the lunch upgrade, head to Karma Rottnest for a buffet of hot dishes, deli items, salads, desserts and beverages.

Your day trip then ends with the return ferry ride to Fremantle or Perth.

Great day on Rottnest Island

My sister and I had a wonderful day on Rottnest Island! The bus picked us up near our hotel and took us to the pier. The boat ride to the island was beautiful as we left the heart of Perth. We took the bus ride around the island to get our bearings and then after lunch, went back to one of the small beaches. Everything was handled well and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. We even saw several quokkas!

Nice Attractionn but presentation was substandard

It's like moving cattle to market . High production, with minimal quality (time and detail) at the attractions . I booked and paid for specific inclusions 2 months ahead of time, only to find out at day before that they would not be available. The tour operator (Rottnest Explorer), says they notified Viator. I never was notified until I confirmed with Rottnest. Dissatisfied to have to accept a bus tour instead of the original boat round round island. Provided lunch was average. Return ferry ride with wine taste and music was nice.

Rottnest island

We took the outbound ferry from Perth. This then stopped to pick up 200 people in Fremantle. The outbound journey took a long time! Rottnest was very busy and as we didn’t want to cycle were pleased to have booked the island tour rather than using the hop on hop off bus which was crammed full. Lunch was a good option as well. One problem was that our only option on return ferry to Perth was at 5pm. We wanted to leave earlier and easily changed to a ferry back to Fremantle via a free phone in the visitor centre. Easy option to then get the train back to Perth. Trip was well worth it for the beautiful scenery.
