Your day trip starts with hotel pickup before driving east of Perth to historical York, the first town founded in the Avon Valley. Stop here to enjoy morning tea in town (own expense) before continuing to Hyden, pausing along the way at a dog cemetery in honor of working Australian sheepdogs.

In Hyden, check out Hippo’s Yawn, a rock formation that resembles a yawning hippopotamus, and then sit down to an Aussie Country-Style lunch at the Wildflower Shoppe, and and choose to visit a wildlife park or check out the Antique Lace Collection. After eating, make the drive to Wave Rock, one of Western Australia’s most popular natural landmarks, a 50-foot-tall (15-meter) rock formation that resembles a giant ocean wave.

Next, head to Mulka’s Cave, a large boulder with a hollowed-out, cave-like shape. Then start the drive back to Perth, taking a different route that includes a stop in a country town of for afternoon tea (own expense). If you’re taking this tour during wildflower season (typically September to November), make stops during the day for views and photo opportunities of Western Australia’s renowned wildflowers.

Your day trip ends when you arrive back at your Perth hotel in the late evening.

Bit disappointed
Bev_W
, Dec 2020
I booked this because of the promised Aboriginal culture aspect. The chance of getting this viewpoint and info was very appealing. Due to unforeseen staff problems, and of course being Christmas, it was very disappointing. Staff lovely but the trip amounted to a bus transporting us from A to B to C with basic lunch then home. No cultural information, no admittance to two of the venues due to them being closed for the season, and lunch was very basic as I said. If Adams can’t deliver the same tour as usual then they should have advised us AND reduced the cost. $215 for this tour is too expensive for what we got.

A great trip with a very knowledgable driver who explained about the land and the errors made by earlier settlers by clearing the vegetation. The sites, Hippos Yawn, Wave Rock and Mulkas Cave are fantastic also the Aboriginal history surrounding the cave was fascinating. Highly recommended.

Over Priced and Over Rated

This is a very expensive day trip which is, in my opinion, just not worth the money or time. I read some of the reviews before booking this tour and considered the negative comments were balanced by exceptional feedback. To my disappointment I now agree with many of the critical reviews as I shared their experience. Highlights: Western Australian wheat belt York a town with many stone, heritage listed buildings. Amazing hay sculptures were scattered throughout the town Stunning salmon & white eucalyptus trees and other beautiful native flora including the Rose of the West which was in flower on our trip in November Ancient grass trees who have survived agricultural development Kondinin, the founding region of the independent agricultural research organisation the Kondinin Group Salt lakes Innovative farming methods combining crops with tree plantings Most informative driver Wave Rock Wave Rock is a solid 4 hour drive from Perth so there is far more driving on this trip than site seeing. Take your own snacks and a good supply of water with you or make sure you eat well and stock up at York. Lunch is a hearty meal at the level of a road side truck stop - paper plates and plastic cutlery of the most basic level. No drink or desert included. No table service. All stops are very rushed. Wear closed in walking shoes not sandals. Take tissues and wet wipes. There is no afternoon tea or dinner provided so you need plenty of fruit and snacks. Fill up your water bottles at lunch. We stopped very briefly at a petrol station to buy food for dinner. Don’t depend on this place for food - we barely had time to use the toilet - led the way for ladies to use the men’s toilet to meet the demand! Food here is very basic and what you want may have run out by the time you are served. Summary: 15 hour day by the time we got back to our hotel 11 hours driving, approximately all stops were rushed standard of lunch did not match the price of this trip as an Australian I felt embarrassed that so many over seas visitors were experiencing this tour - no program to explain the day, no information in different languages, dreadful food and an Aboriginal story that was truly appalling For $215 it would be reasonable to expect: a program for the day in multiple languages to ensure foreign visitors feel welcome & included an ‘in bus box’ including water which is replenished as needed, a piece of fruit & a snack bar adequate time to enjoy all stops a proper lunch served on crockery plates & real cutlery; cold drink included, main meal of ‘coffee shop’ standard including a delicious desert. And table service! Make me feel welcome! I’ve been sitting on a bus for 5 hours! afternoon tea clear explanations (would be on the Program) stating you had to purchase your own dinner. The road house scheduled for this stop should be prepared and have sufficient food, available. Time to eat this meal would be nice. Recommendation - completely review this day trip before offering again. Consider making this 2 days - there is just not enough time to see all the inclusions. You travel through stunning rural country, the WA wheat belt, beautiful native trees as well - fabulous things to see. But make time, spoil your clients on this long journey & match the food standards of other WA tours. Hire a car and take your time. The roads are good and nice motels to stay in at York and Hyden

Wonderful Wave Rock

Our trip to Wave Rock via York, Hippo's Yawn and Mulki's Cave was a brilliant way to escape coastal storms. Several wildflowers including Leschenaultia bright blue by the roadside, yellows and purples at Wave Rock and the cave. Our Adams Punnacles Tours driver was very informative regarding types of gum trees, but time limitations prevented extensive wildflower searching. A long drive but well worth it in my opinion. No actual contact with Indigenous guides, but stories of legends were very useful.

Not a real tour.

This is actually NOT a real tour, but rather a driver taking you from point A to B and C with apx. 30 minutes in each point for salf exploration. Most of the 12-hours day is spent in the bus, doing noghing. As for Wave Rock itself - it's somehow overrated and the endless amou t of flies totally ruins the experience. Not recommended at all.
