Ancient Rome Tour: Colosseum Underground and Roman Forum

Fantastic tour! Our guide truly cared about Rome and the history. Would highly recommend. We left impressed!

Amazing tour! We thought the Colosseo tour couldn't be eat, then we headed over to the Forum and met Tom! His insights and knowledge made the entire trip to Rome worth it. It wasn't just his expertise on ancient Rome and the Republic, but how the characters of history shaped who we still are today.

It was all very organized. The tours were divided into 2 parts so we had 2 tour guides. The first guide, Laura, who did the underground was knowledgeable, but not a good tour guide. She was not friendly and seemed to have an attitude problem. It was hard to understand her through her heavy accent and her commentary was delivered as if she was reading it to you. On the other had, Tom from Manchester was delightful and happy to be sharing his valuable information with us. He gets a 5-star rating. His tour was terrific! The reason for the 4 stars on the overall rating was because of Laura, otherwise I would have given it a 5.

This tour was well organized and was a great experience to do.Guides were great both at the Colosseum and at the forum.

We heard that it never rains in Rome and our tour day was the one day that it rained. While our tour guide tried to make the best of it, she spent most of her energy trying to stay out of the rain while touring the Colosseum. She was marginal. On the other hand our tour guide for the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill was incredible - so many great stories!!! Loved him!!

The tour was well presented by knowledgeable guides one was an archeologist, the information was relevant and interesting, time spent at the sites was enough, instructions and communication prior to the tour was spot on

This was our favorite tour in Rome. If you are going to visit the Colosseum, I would highly recommend doing the underground tour. The tour is guided by an archaeologist of the Colosseum. They then take you up to the third floor of the Colosseum. The views are spectacular. Then we met up our guide Tom to tour the Roman Forum. Tom was very knowledgeable about the history of the politics during that time.

The access to the underground and top level were priceless. Arrive early as we almost missed it being on time and the company made sure we were taken care of.

This tour was the highlight of our trip to Rome! We highly recommend making the effort to get a tour that includes the Underground portion of the Colosseum. It sent shivers down our backs to walk the dark corridors the gladiators and the Christian martyrs walked to enter the arena. We were very pleased with the tour provider, Touriks, as well. Before we left on our trip, I received a text from them notifying me they had had to cancel our tour on the day we'd originally scheduled (May 1) because the Colosseum Administration had decided that the restricted areas would be closed that day, but asking if we'd like to reschedule. As it so happened, we did have an opening in our schedule, and they rebooked us for May 12th and sent us a confirmation by email very promptly! We were so glad! On the day we were rescheduled to tour, it was raining hard. But the sun came out just as it was time for our tour. The tour operators informed us that the tours of the Underground earlier that morning had had to be canceled because of too much rainwater getting into that area, and that as a result, our tour would be the first tour of the day allowed into the Underground. Our guide was an Italian archaeologist, and I'm sorry we didn't get her name. She was excellent--extremely informative and knowledgeable. We skipped all the lines, went in a separate entrance, and started our tour on the arena floor. Our tour group was comfortably small. After the arena floor, she led us down to the Underground where she showed us where and how they lifted the caged animals up to the floor of the arena, and showed us where the gladiators were housed, and how they would have entered the arena. We then proceeded to the upper levels of the Colosseum for a completely different view. Be prepared for a number of long, steep staircases! We had a bit of free time to view the exhibits and shop in the bookstore before the second part of the tour was to begin--touring the Roman Forum. However, about that time it began to pour down rain in buckets, so my husband and I elected to forego that part of the tour (our feet got wet enough just walking back to the hotel in the rain!) We appreciated the friendly professionalism of the Touriks staff and commend Viator for contracting with them. We would definitely recommend this tour!

It was a good tour, very comprehensive. It felt long, but we did cover a lot in the Coloseum, forum and palantine hill. Recommend it because without the tour, there are areas you cannot get in.
