Meeting point: At the bottom of the steps across the street from the Entrance of the Vatican Museums. The steps are located right next to Caffè Vaticano on the corner of Viale Vaticano and Via Tunisi. The closest Metro stop is Line A (Ottaviano – Musei Vaticani).

Sistine Chapel , 00120, Vatican City
Vatican tours with skip-the-line access are sought-after, so even the fast-track lines are long. This experience includes admission through a special entrance, so there are no lines whatsoever. Follow your guide directly inside the vast collection of private artwork that is the Vatican Museums.

Walk through the Gallery of the Maps and Gallery of Tapestries as you listen to tales of Vatican intrigue. Gaze at artifacts such as timeworn yet fascinating Italian maps, and admire the sculptures and candelabras of the Gallery of Candelabras. Stop for photos in front of the Pigna statue in the Pinecone Courtyard, designed by Donato Bramante.

Raphael’s Rooms are a series of galleries that highlight the talent of the lauded Renaissance artist himself. Pass through the rooms, and then step inside the Sistine Chapel—the pope’s personal place of worship and a highlight of any Vatican trip. Stand beneath Michelangelo’s 'The Creation of Adam,' which cloaks the ceiling, and admire 'The Last Judgement,' his colorful mural that adorns a wall.

After your Sistine Chapel visit, continue to St. Peter’s Basilica, the symbolic heart of the Catholic church. Learn about its history and see more Vatican art including Michelangelo’s 'La Pietà,' which was sculpted when the maestro was only 24 years old. Gaze at the baldachino by Bernini, and then say goodbye to your guide in St. Peter’s Square.

Keep in mind that St. Peter's Basilica and St. Peter's Square might be unavailable on Wednesdays due to the weekly Papal Audience. As an alternative, enjoy an extended itinerary within the Vatican Museums, which still includes the Sistine Chapel and Raphael's Rooms. If you want to make sure that St. Peter's Basilica and Square are included in your tour, don't select Wednesday as your travel date.

If you want to enhance your Vatican experience, select one of the following experiences:

Small-Group Tour in the morning: Enter the Vatican Museums as soon as it opens, before the other lines enter. Your tour is limited to 10 people for personal attention and information about the Vatican’s must-see sights.

Tour in the evening: Explore the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel after the doors close to the general public. A visit to St. Peter’s Basilica is not included.

A must do

This tour was awesome! The guide knew how to get around very well and all the ins and outs from the Vatican to the Museum and Sistine Chapel. Very knowledgeable and pointed out things that I for sure would have missed had I gone without a guide. Showed us so many amazing parts of the Vatican and interesting facts about each part. You have to do this while you’re in Rome!

One of my sons got sick before the tour began so he & I had to leave. I requested a refund for our tickets since the other 4 went but was denied. Really disappointed since we did many tours this week through your company and spent a lot of money

Magdalena led the tour very well. The group size was good so everyone was able to keep up. Magdalena provided the history and details behind the rooms and specific pieces. Throughout the tour, she gave reminders of what options are available in case people wanted to explore the museum more or stay the group up to St. Peter’s Basilica. There is a chance you may not enter depending on the guards. How the guards let you in is a secret not even local Italians or Vatican citizens know. Some guess depends on number of people and important visitors (e.g. cardinals, bishops, prime ministers, presidents, and etc). The Sistine chapel was breath taking and so was the inside of St. Peter’s Basilica. Magdalena was even kind to stick around longer for those who had questions as well. Highly recommend the tour can be overwhelming to do by yourself with the mass number of other tourists.

Our tour guide, Olga was very knowledgeable and informative. We went for the last viewing of the day and so were able to catch the sunset over the Basilica and was much cooler.

Tour guide was very knowledgeable but a few organisational hick ups at the start delayed us getting started. I booked a small group tour, but 20+ people doesn’t constitute a small group imo.

Our guide, Paulina was amazing! She had great knowledge of the Vatican that she readily shared in a very clear and concise way. Do not consider touring the Vatican without a guide, and be sure to ask that Paulina be your guide, you'll be glad you did! -Jim

Alexandra was outstanding! She knows so much more than what you would read or listen to in a recording because she is very interested in art and history- more like a person who loves to explore and learn more about a subject! We were very happy with her engaging personality and I think most in our group would agree.
