Your first stop in Tivoli is at Hadrian’s Villa for a walking tour. Hear how the villa belonged to Emperor Hadrian who desired an unassuming vacation home as a tribute to his lover. By modern standards, his ‘humble abode’ could be considered a town in its own right.

The ruins of the emperor’s impressive estate consist of more than 30 buildings, and you’ll see the highlights as you explore. Discover the complex ruins of the old imperial palace as well as thermal baths, temples, libraries and subterranean passages that are wide enough for vehicles.

Enjoy lunch at your own expense, and then continue to Villa d'Este: explore the former Benedictine convent, and see why many consider the villa to be one of the finest of the Renaissance era.

As you explore, hear how Villa d’Este was built as an opulent abode for the son of Lucretia Borgia, a 15th-century duchess who attracted drama and gossip wherever she went. Make your way past the Fountain of Neptune, and wander through the gardens to see waterfalls, fountains and centenary trees.

Leave Villa d’Este after your tour, and then relax on your journey back to Rome.

The guide Joseph was very informative for the whole visit (he had a good knowledge of the sites with illustrations) and made sure we did not miss out on any special attractions. He also kept to a fairly tight schedule which enabled us to spend a lot of time later in Tivoli gardens and he gave us enough time to take our own photos. The lunch was also fairly good. We would recommend the visit to anyone as there is a lot to see in a short time. Pick up was organised well and we arrived back in Rome in good time to do some shopping.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Tivoli. Our guide was excellent and very informative at Hadrian's Villa as well as at Villa D'Este. Both places were beautiful in their own individual ways and we enjoyed each place we toured. Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see something outside of the Rome area.

Our guide Joseph was amazing - very knowledgeable and helpful. Both sites were beautiful. The only thing I wish was clearer was lunch - we ended up owing money because it wasn’t clear what was the included lunch and what wasn’t.

Our tour was terrific although we were disappointed that it was cut a bit short because of carnival. No ones fault, just disappointing. The food was also a bit of a letdown. Just a poor choice of options on the included lunch. We really did not enjoy it which is surprising given we love the food in Italy. Our guide, Joseph, was excellent. He was very warm and friendly, knew his stuff, answered all questions and kept a eye on us. These are exactly what we expect in a guide and Joseph met those expectations.

Visiting the villas in Tivoli is awesome! I am lucky enough that I visited Tivoli on a sunny day, and there were only a few visitors around. These two villas are the must-go in Italy. Besides, the guide Giuseppe is knowledgeable, providing adequate background of the history and development of the villas. He is also nice and caring. The tour was provided with sufficient time to hang around in the villa. This is an enjoyable experience.

We had a wonderful tour guide named Joseph. He was very knowledgeable and his English was good. I would have given the tour 5 stars but we had to take the metro to the end of the line to get the van. The tour said transportation to and from central Rome. Although the tour was great,, that was disappointing.

Both the Tivoli Gardens and Hadrian’s villa were of course inspiring but in truth it was the guide that brought it all together. She could not have been more knowledgeable or more engaged. It was her enthusiasm and all of the site that made it a really wonderful experience to be there.

Your guide Giovanni was excellent. He was well informed but not pedantic or boring. He was able to answer all questions and explain the history and the relationship between Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este. He was also helpful with our mundane questions about matters like what to eat for lunch. Thanks to a Giovanni for a great experience.
