Cruise around San Diego bay aboard an authentic 1992 America’s Cup racing yacht and travel at twice the speed of the average sailboat. The Stars and Stripes USA-11 is one of the fastest and best known America’s Cup racing yachts. It was designed and built to be raced in San Diego, and has been restored to pristine condition. Take a turn at the helm and join in grinding the winches to raise and trim the sails.

Departure Point: Kona Kai Resort & Marina Address: 1551 Shelter Island Drive. San Diego, 92106 Directions: The Kona Kai Resort and Marina is located near the southern end of Shelter Island. The address is 1551 Shelter Island Drive and a map or GPS will get you to the correct location. However, street numbers are not visible, so be sure to look for the Kona Kai sign. Parking is free on the street or in the parking lot across the street.  Valet parking is also available at the entrance to the Kona Kai Resort. Our office is located in the single story building on the marina walkway. Stars & Stripes is docked immediately behind the resort, just look for the tallest mast in the marina. If interested, come 30 minutes early for the America's cup history presentation, but no later than 15 minutes prior to departure. Dates: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday Return point: Same as departure.

The trip was awesome! I had a great time. The staff was friendly and encouraging. The ship was leaning from time to time because the wind was blowing twice as hard as it usually does (According to one of the staff. Which I thought was a little extra cool). The day was beautiful, the sun was shining, and there's nothing like being on the ship with the wind blowing through your hair. Nothing but positives!

With an eleven story high mast and nearly 4,000 square feet of sail area, we not only tower above average sailboats, but we're able to pass them at twice their speed. The crew was fantastic, allowed participation from the entire party, including my 9yo daughter who was allowed to steer the boat and loved it! The experience was amazing and memorable. They offered snacks and quick summary of the sail races in the past which very neat! Overall we loved it!!

We went as a family with a 15 and 18 year old. Everyone worked the winches and had a turn at the helm. The crew was knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The history of yacht racing and the yacht we went on was interesting and gave you a better appreciation of the experience. A bonus on the day we went was an aircraft carrier leaving the harbor with a full load of planes on deck!
