Muir Woods National Monument is a must-see destination on any visit to the San Francisco Bay Area. Just a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, the protected nature reserve is home to one of the world’s last remaining coastal redwood forests.

Choose from a morning or afternoon departure. Stop at a vista point for a fantastic perspective of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz, and wind through the rolling emerald hills of the Marin Headlands to arrive at Muir Woods. Stroll along forest paths surrounded by the giant redwood trees, some of which stretch as high as 250 feet (76 meters) and date back nearly 800 years.

After Muir Woods, take a short drive to the artistic bayside village of Sausalito. Capture wonderful photos of the San Francisco skyline during a stroll along the waterfront, pop into one of the many art galleries and grab a cappuccino or ice cream at a local café (own expense).

Your tour concludes with drop off at either of the two departure points or choose the option of taking the Sausalito ferry back to San Francisco (Pier 41).

    Tour was 50/50

The tour of the Muir Woods and Sausalito was great. Enjoyed that part of the trip, however, the issue I have with the day is the return by ferry that I purchase with the tour package. The trip was a special day for us (our anniversary) and was taking the ferry to see the city via the ocean view but because the “Blue & Gold Fleet voucher pass received was not for the first ferry coming to Sausalito after the tour from Muir Woods. Therefore, I had to take the bus back to the drop-off location because I had a dinner reservation and could not wait for the Blue & Gold Fleet voucher ferry departure time. If I had known the ferry times when I booked the tour, I could have coordinated my dinner restaurant with the ferry pier 39 arrival time. Not aware of the ferry times until you walked to the pier and see the board. It would have been better not to have purchased the ferry ride with Viator and bought the ferry ticket at the booth on the pier. Viator should not offer the return by ferry unless they make the “Blue & Gold Fleet Sausalito departure times known when booking the tour. This would be very helpful for those that are in town for one day and are making other plans. I was not paying for a ferry ride that I had already paid for with Viator tour.

A very nice tour of the woods. I would have given 5 Stars if we had a little more time to hit some of the longer trails. The major trails have a boardwalk which make it easy to walk.

Beautiful day at Muir Woods, enough time to take in the tranquility and beauty of this woods. Sausalito is a short stop, to grab something to eat or just walk around and enjoy the bay view. Returned by ferry was amazing, full view of Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

good and informative guide but on the whole i was left with the feeling that we could have done the trip on our own since most of the time we were on our own anyway.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hello Sharon B Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. Our tour offers much more than a ride to Muir Woods. If you take our tour, instead of going by an Uber (there is practically no phone signal inside the park), you have a tour guide who shares the history and information about each place; our professional drivers are trained and used to go through the narrow and curvy road to Muir Woods. You also pass through the Marina district in San Francisco with a photo stop on the Golden Gate Bridge and visit the charming Sausalito. Inside the Park, tour guides are not allowed to guide, so we suggest the best places to walk through and wait to take you to Sausalito. We also offer the return by ferry from Sausalito, where you get close to Alcatraz and have stunning views of San Francisco Hope to welcome you back again Ignacio Gray Line San Francisco

    It was ok.

    , May 2022
The trip was fine, nothing spectacular. The woods were nice to walk through, but unless you do a really long hike it doesn't take long, which you get 90 minutes but you only need 50-60. Sausalito was not worth it. A lot of places still out of business, many typical tourist trap shops, or Baby Boomer women fashion.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hi Jeff_E Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. Muir Woods Park is a peaceful and lovely place to walk around. We offer 90 minutes there (the maximum time permitted for buses there), so you can walk up to Bridge 4, and those who want to hike a bit more can come back through the upper grove trail. Sausalito is a charming town to walk around. I always suggest returning by ferry, so you can also have fantastic views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. Thanks again. Ignacio Gray Line San Francisco
